The increase in the number of teaching staff and the growth of the educational potential of the faculty contributed to the creation of the Department of Medical and Biological Basics of Physical Education in 2009, headed by Olena Dovhan, PhD in Biology, Associate Professor.
In September 2020, the department was renamed to the Theoretical and Biological Foundations of Physical Education, and since 2021 the department has been headed by Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Mykola Bozhyk.
The scientific potential of the department is represented by: Professor, Candidate of Biological Sciences O. Dovhan; Associate Professors, Candidates of Sciences in Physical Education and Sports V. Banakh, T. Kucher, V. Slyusarchuk, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences M. Bozhyk, Senior Lecturer Plevachuk L. Y.; Associate Professor, Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of Ukraine Prokopovych V. M.; Assistant of the Department Gurkovskyi O. M. Research and teaching staff are working on a dissertation research on topical issues of physical culture and sports doctoral students Banakh V. I., Slyusarchuk V. V. and postgraduate student Gurkovskyi O. M.

The Department's teachers are actively engaged in research and work on the collective theme of the Department "Ways of Optimization in Physical Education and Sports in the Education System". The wide range of scientific activities of the still young department has expanded beyond Ukraine. The members of the department annually publish scientific articles in professional periodicals, make presentations at scientific symposia, congresses and conferences in Ukraine, Poland.
The department organizes the work of the student scientific group "Optimization of Physical Education of Different Contingents of Pupils and Students", which studies the problem of "Physical Education of Pupils and Students and the Adult Population by Means of Physical Culture and Sports". The results of scientific research of higher education applicants are published at the reporting student scientific-practical conference, at the final lesson of the circle during the week of the department, as well as in the annual collection of student research papers, the scientific-practical conference "LITTERIS ET ARTIBUS: NEW HORIZONS", in addition, some articles are sent to all-Ukrainian and inter-university collections of student research papers or used to participate in scientific conferences of higher education students and young scientists.

The department has a teaching and methodological room for studying the educational components of the biomedical orientation, namely: human anatomy with the basics of sports medicine, biomechanics and sports metrology, adaptive physical education, massage, hygiene of physical education and sports, functional diagnostics in physical education and sports, sports medicine, etc. The educational process is provided with anatomical preparations, models, atlases, spirometers, tonometers, Holter system "Dia Card" and other educational accessories. Multimedia is widely used in the educational process.

Teachers of the department have published a number of manuals: "Anatomy and Physiology with Pathology", "Human Anatomy in Questions and Answers", "Functional Anatomy", "Ways to Improve the Physical Condition of Students with Weakened Health", "Hygiene of Physical Education and Sports", "Gymnastics Equipment (Drill and General Developmental Exercises)", "Book of a Young Physical Education Teacher", Physical Culture of Pupils of Grades 5-9", "Human Anatomy with the Basics of Sports Morphology", "Methods of Teaching Sports and Pedagogical Disciplines for Masters in Higher Education Institutions of Physical Education and Sports" - edited by V. Papusha. G. and the textbook "Fundamentals of Medical Knowledge and Premedical Care". Teachers of the department have developed methodical instructions for educational components that are taught at the department (human anatomy with the basics of sports morphology, hygiene of physical education, massage, physiology of sports, sports medicine, methods of functional diagnostics in physical education and sports, acrobatic exercises, drill exercises, therapeutic physical education, etc.)
The department holds educational, methodological and scientific seminars that facilitate the exchange of experience between teachers and teachers of schools in the region, district, city, and studies the problems of general secondary education, physical education and sports in Ukraine.
The department actively cooperates with the public organization "Society of Parents and Children with Disabilities "Dawn of Hope" in Kremenets, with the Charitable Foundation "Sports Center for Child Development", with the Department of Physical Rehabilitation, Human Health and Physical Education of the State Higher Educational Institution Ternopil State Medical University named after I. Gorbachevsky of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Department of Physical Education of Volodymyr Hnatiuk TNPU and constantly conducts methodological seminars and workshops, master classes on physical rehabilitation. There is a constant exchange of experience between the institutions.
For many years of conscientious work, significant achievements and achievements in professional and scientific activities, the scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department of Theoretical and Biological Foundations of Physical Education were awarded joint diplomas of the Regional Council and the Regional State Administration - Dovgan O. M. (2016), Kucher T. V. (2017, 2019), Bozhyk M. V. (2021), the gratitude of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine was announced - Kucher T. V. (2021) for many years of conscientious work, significant contribution of highly qualified specialists and fruitful scientific and pedagogical activity
Within the structure of the department, individual teachers provide educational components of physical education: conduct physical education classes, lead sports sections in athletics, game sports, table tennis, badminton, tourism, fitness and rhythmic gymnastics with students of all faculties of the Academy, which aim to improve physical development, disease prevention, and health promotion. With the participation of the department's faculty, various sports competitions are constantly organized and held.

Under the leadership of the Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of Ukraine, professional coach of the international level - FIVB, the highest level of Ukraine, judge of the national category of Ukraine Prokopovych V. M., volleyball is widely popularized among pupils and students. The department is provided with the necessary material and technical base, which allows to train specialists in physical education at the proper level. Students are provided with technical and multimedia support for teaching professional disciplines
