DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGY, ECOLOGY AND METHODS OF TEACHING

The main task of the Department of Biology, Ecology and Methods of Teaching is to develop future specialists' professional competence, ability to demonstrate appropriate personal qualities, mobilizing relevant knowledge, skills and abilities.

MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT

Creation and support of conditions for the quality training of highly qualified teachers of biology and health basics of general secondary education institutions, competitive in the labor market, fluent in their profession and oriented in related fields of activity;

Providing higher education applicants with a set of knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for application in professional activities in the field of ecology, environmental protection (research of ecological processes and environmental management of social production and non-production processes of human life).

EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITY

The department provides training for applicants for the first (bachelor's) level of higher education in the field of knowledge Education / Pedagogy in the specialty 014 Secondary Education (Human Biology and Health) and the field of knowledge Natural Sciences in the specialty 101 Ecology; second (master's) level of higher education in the field of knowledge Education / Pedagogy in the specialty 014 Secondary Education (Human Biology and Health).

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES.

For the effective training of future specialists, the department has organized research laboratories:

- "Human problems and philosophy of health"

(headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor V. M. Vasylyuk);

- "Ecological monitoring and experimental biology"

(Head - Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Senior Lecturer O. Bondar);

- "Innovations in biological and environmental education"

(Head - Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Lecturer T. Bondarenko).

On their basis, research is carried out on the topics of candidate and doctoral dissertations, course and qualification works, scientific and methodological seminars, conferences of international and national levels, etc.

Priority areas of scientific research:

- studying the impact of the urbanized environment and climatic factors on human health;

- study of the biotic diversity of Northern Podillia, its current state and anthropogenic transformation.

- research of modern directions of implementation of innovative activities in the field of education.

In 2004-2015, the department was headed by a prominent botanist, professor, academician V. I. Chopyk. Under his leadership, the department began to create a herbarium of the flora of Western Podillia, which is a scientific treasure trove and valuable material for scientific research. In honor of V. I. Chopyk, a personalized classroom was opened, in which a personal library of author's books and books from the scientist's private library was organized.

The department has a greenhouse, an important component of the educational and practical base, which is necessary for the full training of specialists in biology and ecology. The scientific, cognitive, educational and practical importance of using the greenhouse material is quite diverse: conducting research work of teachers and students; performing experiments in the preparation of course and qualification works; conducting laboratory classes in botany, plant physiology, biogeography, plant ecology, educational practices; organizing classes of biological student and pupil circles. And, finally, it is an interesting recreational place, a kind of oasis of beauty and comfort in an educational institution.

 

 

 

The common professional interests of the department's staff and scientific institutions of the region allowed us to establish close cooperation with the Kremenets Botanical Garden, the Kremenets Mountains and Podilski Tovtry National Nature Parks. The joint efforts of the two organizations have resulted in international conferences (Besserivski Nature Studies, Podilski Readings). The cooperation also includes organizing student internships, mass environmental education events with pupils and students of the region, and practical measures to protect and preserve the environment.

 

 

PRACTICAL ACTIVITY

The Department provides a lively connection between theory and practice, which is the key to ensuring that the knowledge and skills acquired by a graduate of the Department meet the needs of the Ukrainian state. The academic staff of the Department organizes and methodically accompanies the following types of practices:

- propedeutic,

- educational and pedagogical (trial lessons),

- industrial (pedagogical),

- educational and field practice in botany and zoology,

- general environmental training,

- educational landscape-ecological,

- educational practice in biodiversity conservation,

- training practice at enterprises and institutions,

- industrial (environmental).

Practical training is carried out in an active educational environment on the basis of general secondary education institutions and environmental education departments of research and environmental protection institutions of the Kremenets Mountains National Nature Park, Kremenets Botanical Garden, research laboratories of the educational institution and through participation in the activities of public organizations.

 

 

The department acts as a generator of ideas for biodiversity conservation and is a center for the implementation of formal and informal environmental education in the region. Research and teaching staff created the Kremenets district branch of the International Association of University Ecologists, which, in accordance with the charter, carries out organizational (preparation and conduct of environmental actions), scientific (preparation of projects in environmental, environmental and educational areas), educational (environmental education and career guidance among students of general secondary education institutions), publishing (creation of printed materials about conferences, events, round tables, seminars).

The scientific and pedagogical staff of the department, together with applicants, take an active part in organizing scientific eco-picnics, which are held within the framework of the program of development and popularization of environmental education in Kremenets and Kremenets district under the auspices of the public organization "Kremenets Environmental League".

ORGANIZATIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES

The good traditions of the department are holding a photo contest "Biodiversity of Ukraine", "Biological Brain Ring", herbal tea drinking, master classes, during which students demonstrate their erudition and artistic abilities.

Traditionally, the department organizes a number of environmental events: campaigns to renovate green spaces, environmental competitions, and activities to raise public awareness through cooperation with environmental teams from the city's secondary schools and NGOs.

 

 

 

 

 

The thorough training of the department's graduates allows them to work in general secondary education institutions and institutions of biological, environmental and agricultural profiles. Among them are school principals, researchers, and candidates of biological, agricultural, and historical sciences.

Currently, the department preserves the best educational, scientific, and methodological traditions and develops new ones, improving the training of qualified teachers of biology and health basics of the modern Ukrainian school, as well as environmental specialists.
