Ewa Nidecka, PhD, professor at the University of Rzeszow, music theoretician, composer, pianist (Rzeszow, Poland)
The article notes that the creative path of Polish composer Andrzej Nikodimowicz was shaped by the traditions of the Catholic Church. His religious music includes Marian themes, hymns, music for contemporary religious poetry, dedicated to eschatological issues and the fall of man as a sinful being.
The author notes that a considerable number of works of this kind give an idea of the composer's commitment to a certain range of values, which is crucial for his creative path. In this context, the last period of the composer's work, covering the years 2010-2016, seems particularly important, in which the focus is on the theme of faith and prayer expressed in his works.
Among all the works, the author emphasizes the "Loretto II Litany" for soprano and organ, written by the composer in 1985. Attention is drawn to the only mass "Mystery of the Holy Cross", which was first performed in 1998, medieval hymns, including "De Christo moriente" for solo soprano and baritone and mixed choir, “Hymnus pro peccatis for solo soprano and organ. The cycle "Passion Diptych" is analyzed.
It is noted that a deep faith in God allowed Andrzej Nikodimowicz to survive the most difficult moments of his life, and religious works invariably appear as a kind of dialogue with God, giving strength to express his attitude to the values of the Catholic Church and faith in its timeless foundations.
