The article shows that the feminist movement, which originated in Europe and the United States in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, had a significant impact on the status of women. After World War II, technological and social changes made life easier and expanded opportunities for women. It is noted that the second wave of feminism in the 1960s and 1970s with the National Organization for Women (NOW) achieved significant results, in particular, in ensuring equality in education and employment. In China in the twentieth century, after the Cultural Revolution, the status of women improved, but inequality still persists at the institutional level. The author emphasizes the influence of the Confucian patriarchal system, which has been established since ancient times, based on a respectful attitude towards sons. It is noted that all Chinese female composers are influenced by Western compositional techniques and have experience in creating electronic music.

Keywords: China, gender equality, women, music, status.
